Writings on Irish History
Irish History Online is a project funded for three years (2003-6) by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences Projects Grant Scheme, for the purpose of making available an electronic searchable database of Writings on Irish History, 1936- . The database has been created in conjunction with the Royal Historical Society Bibliography of British and Irish history, and using the same software, so that the two bibliographies are inter-searchable.
In August 2004 Irish History Online went live with ten years' worth of Writings, covering the period 1989-98, together with additional items of Irish interest from the Royal Historical Society Bibliography. It was agreed in 2004 that in future the R.H.S. Bibliography would cease to record Irish material, and that this task would devolve solely on the Irish History Online team, based in the Department of Modern History, NUI Maynooth, under the direction of Professor Jacqueline Hill. Writings on Irish History will no longer appear in printed format, but the raw material for current and future items for the database continues to be generated by Máirín Cassidy (U.C.D. library), and Ciaran Nicholson (T.C.D. library).
Irish History Online will be regularly updated as the I.H.O. team (Dr Anthony
McCormack, editor, and Mary Murray, data inputter) complete further batches
of material. It is available at http://www.rhs.ac.uk/bibl/ireland.asp,
from which site the R.H.S Bibliography can also be accessed.
