The ICHS was founded in 1938 to represent Ireland on the International Committee of Historical Sciences. It sponsors an annual conference and is responsible for a number of publications. The ICHS also monitors developments in academic history in Ireland. In 2000 the ICHS joined with the Royal Irish Academy to form the National Committee of History.
