Newsletter 33: Australian Women's Archives Project:
The National Foundation for Australian Women has established the Australian
Women's Archives Project with the purpose of supporting the preservation of
women's papers and providing access to those papers. It has developed a national
strategy to protect and make accessible Australian women's history by
- Establishing an Australian Women's Archive Fund to assist the ongoing preservation
of women's papers and materials
- Having an Australian Women's Archives Reference Group including eminent
historians, archivists and researchers, to advise on ongoing protocols for
women's archives in Australia - to ensure the development of consistent and
integrated systems for women's archives
- Facilitating Australian Women's Archives Joint Committees at the local level.
These would include State Women's Trusts, State Libraries and/or other appropriate
local organisations to:
- Progress the efforts of groups and individuals to archive, index and maintain
Australian women's papers;
- and advise the NFAW on the distribution of monies in the Australian Women's
Archives Fund
- Setting up a web based Australian Women's Archives Register of the location
and content of all Australian women's papers.
