Newsletter 33: News from National Committees: IRELAND
The Women's History Association of Ireland held its annual research conference on 7/8 September 2001, in the University of Ulster, Coleraine, Northern Ireland. Titled 'Writing Women's History, it was organised by Dr Janice Holmes, and included papers on Kate O'Brien, Eliza Lynch, St.Brigid, Peig Sayers and a panel discussion on writing political women's biographies. During the conference The Cullen-MacCurtain Essay prize for writing on a women's history topic which is sponsored by the WHAI was awarded to Joanne Clarke, Queen's University Belfast. The annual newsletter and a new brochure were circulated at the conference.
The Women's History Project continued its work. The Directory of Sources for Women's History in Ireland already available on CD-ROM is now available on the World Wide Web, at http://www.nationalarchives.ie/wh. In addition the records of the Department of the Taoiseach (Prime Minister's Office) for the period 1922 to 1970 is now available at www.nationalarchives.ie/wh. The minutes of the Ulster Unionist Women's Council (edited by Diane Urquhart) has been published and is available for purchase from the Women's History Project, 73 Merrion Square, Dublin 1, Republic of Ireland.
The local organising committee of the IFRWH continues its preparations for
the forthcoming conference to be held in Belfast in 2003.
The 14th annual conference of the WHAI will be held in St Patrick's College,
Drumcondra, Dublin, Republic on 6/7 September 2002. The theme is 'Women and
