News from National Committees: Ireland

The Women's History Association of Ireland held its annual research conference on 7/8 September 2002, in St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin. Organised by Dr Diarmuid Ferriter of the Department of History, papers examined the theme of female migration in an Irish, British and American context.

The directory of sources for Women's History in Ireland already available on CD-ROM remains available on the World Wide Web, at www.nationalarchives.ie/wh. In addition the records of the Department of the Taoiseach (Prime Minister's Office) for the period 1922 to 1970 is available at www.nationalarchives.ie/wh. The minutes of the Ulster Unionist Women's Council have been published and the collection can be purchased from the Women's History Project, 73 Merrion Square, Dublin 1, Republic of Ireland.

The local organising committee of the IFRWH continues its preparations for the forthcoming conference to be held in Belfast in 2003.
The 15th annual conference of the WHAI will not take place in a separate venue in 2003 but instead there will be a WHAI panel integrated into the IFRWH conference.
T he WHAI invites postgraduate students based in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, who have submitted abstracts to the IRRWH Belfast 2003 conference to apply for a grant to assist with travel and accommodation expenses to the conference. There are no application forms. Interested applicants are requested to submit 1) a curriculum vitae (two pages maximum) including details of research activities and 2) the abstract to Dr Bernadette Whelan, President WHAI, College of Humanities, University of Limerick, Plassey, Limerick.'
