Newsletter No 36 November 2003
Newsletter Editors Note
It was wonderful seeing so
many of you in Belfast
last August! The meeting for me began
even before the conference: while waiting in Heathrow for the flight to Belfast, I met a number of delegates
from India,
Sweden,
United States,
Finland,
and elsewhere. It was so exciting to see the talent and energy of women historians
from around the globe. And it was a special treat to connect faces with names.
Even in this age of the internet, networking in person cant be replaced.
In this issue we have our usual reports and calls for
papers. As a co-chair of the program committee for the
Berkshire Conference on Women's History, I invite you to submit proposals.
The theme, "Sin
Fronter as: Women's Histories, Global Conversations," reflects the growing
internationalization of standpoints. So too does the theme of our next meeting
at Sydney: Womens
History Revisited: Historiographical Reflections on Women and Gender in a
Global Context. The new knowledges produced through such global perspectives
remind us how there are many globalisations, and not only the one dominated
by corporate capital or imperial power that has generated world protests over
the last five years. I also call attention to the call later on for submissions
to the panel I am organizing for the World Congress on Body Politics. I truly
am looking for diverse submissions from multiple countries. Spring deadline:
May 1, 2004
I would like to thank UCSB history
graduate student Lizzie Lamoree for her assistance in putting this newsletter
together.
