ORGANIZATION

AEIHM
Asociación Española de Investigación Histórica de las Mujeres
Spanish Association for Research in Women’s History

The Spanish Association for Research in Women's History was founded in June 1991, following the steps of the Spanish National Committee of the IFRWH. Since then, it has been working to promote women's history and the history of gender in Spanish society, as well as articulating a community of women's history scholars.

The Association now has over 190 members, including historians from most Spanish universities and all regions; we are also honored by international membership. It is governed by an executive committee composed of 7 members who are elected every two years in the society's annual business meeting. Our current president is Cristina Borderías, who has joined former presidents Rosa Cid, Mary Nash and Cristina Segura at representing and coordinating the efforts of the association.

Since its foundation, AEIHM has been organizing workshops and conferences every year, and the paper proceedings have always been published. In May 2003, we met in Valladolid to discuss and revisit the historiography of women in Spain; the results of that meeting just appeared in book form. Later in the year, a workshop in Almería was devoted to the history of women as agents of social assistance. Last April, the 12th International Colloquium of the association took place in Seville under the theme of women's education. Next November, a workshop on women as social workers will be organized in the Universidad de Alicante under the auspices of the association.

In our renewed web page http://www.aeihm.org we offer timely and detailed information of the association's past and future activities and publications, as well as the research profiles of its members. It was launched as a space to find and share resources for research in women's history.

As for the future, we are in the process of organizing the next national meetings. In 2005, we plan to start a new type of activity: a two-day discussion of the work of a prominent international scholar, whose influence in our historical community we want to acknowledge. At the same time, we are working on the planning of our next conference in 2006, which will be held in Barcelona. Detailed information on these activities will be soon available in our web page.

We are willing to tighten our international links and hope to welcome IFRWH members in our future activities. In the meantime, please do visit our cyberhouse!
